Bal is a Commercial Lawyer at West Midlands Police, the second largest police force in the country. He trained and qualified in private practice and then made the move to in-house and public sector. Bal spent his early years as a lawyer in international law firm Trowers & Hamlins and then global law firm DLA Piper.
Having qualified as a Real Estate lawyer, Bal has evolved into a Commercial Lawyer at West Midlands Police. His work is varied, exciting and impactful working on a range of matters including collaboration agreements with other police forces, research agreements with universities, commercial contracts with football clubs, media agreements with production companies and more. The transition from private practice to the public sector has allowed Bal to develop and flourish in a way where he can make a direct impact on communities in his region.
Outside of the day job Bal is the Co-Chair of the Birmingham Solicitors’ Group, a growing professional network for junior lawyers across Birmingham and the West Midlands. At the national level, Bal is a Council Member at The Law Society where he was elected to represent junior lawyers 0-6 years PQE nationally.
He is also a NED at TAG Network Midlands, a multi sector networking organisation and has been recognised in the professional community by winning a number of awards including Civil Service Award by the British Sikh Awards in 2023, Alumni of the Year by the University of Law in 2022 and more.
