The O Shaped Movement

Creating a world where putting ‘People First’ really matters

At O Shaped we see the legal profession as an ecosystem of connecting parts and believe that sustainable change will come when those parts work better together.

Only then can we achieve our mission of making the legal profession better for those who are in it, those who use it and those who are entering it.

Better for those who are in it

We believe that everyone in the profession should be able to flourish.

The legal industry attracts some of the brightest and most gifted people and we must nurture and develop that talent in a well-rounded, O Shaped way so they can thrive, regardless of discipline or level of seniority.

We must continue to attract people who can make a difference to the profession and do everything we can to recognise, reward and retain them so we create a generation of emotionally intelligent leaders who recognise that ‘how’ we deliver legal services is as important as ‘what’ legal services we deliver.

Better for those who use it

O shaped is a client-led movement and it is the clients who will lead change across the sector.  From the very first O Shaped gathering in the spring of 2019 to the range of O Shaped Working Groups taking place today, it is the stories, the thought leadership and the overall support of clients that has been a constant thread through the O Shaped movement.

Clients are crying out for sustainable change to the legal system. Not only are many of them embedding O Shaped thinking themselves, they are talking to their external providers about ‘The O’, expecting them to embrace the O Shaped Mindset and Attributes and encouraging them to do the same with the law schools they use.

Better for those who are entering it

O Shaped is leading change throughout the legal education sector.

In our partnerships with BARBRI, BPP, COLP and Damar, we are bringing the O Shaped Mindset, O Shaped Attributes and client voice to existing programmes and developing new ones with the O Shaped frameworks at the core.

In doing so, we are helping legal educators broaden their curricula, making it even more relevant to their students; students who are increasingly required to demonstrate well-rounded competencies in order to thrive.

Our Future Board allows us to reach and influence new cohorts of aspiring and junior lawyers. Through this they are building a community to support each other as they embark on and develop their careers in the legal industry.
