Emma Haywood is a solicitor and legal consultant with a decade of experience in commercial, intellectual property and technology law. As Director and Principal Consultant at Bloomworks Legal, Emma advises purpose-driven organisations on transformational projects, with a focus on emerging technologies.
Emma spent the first 8 years of her career at Slaughter and May, before moving in-house as Associate General Counsel at a high-growth technology company and then into independent legal consulting. Emma has a passion for innovation and regularly shares her perspectives on the future of the legal profession and the rise of artificial intelligence. Her speaking and writing engagements include Legal Geek, Crafty Fest, Black Counsel Forum, Raconteur and The Law Society Gazette.
As a vocal champion of the four-day working week for lawyers, Emma combined her innovator’s mindset and personal experience to create The 4 Day Lawyer. Through consulting, partnerships, mentoring and a popular monthly newsletter, The 4 Day Lawyer is putting the legal profession at the forefront of the conversation about the four-day week and the future of work.
For the past decade, Emma has been a committed mentor to aspiring and qualified lawyers from underrepresented backgrounds. She is a strategic advisor to legal mentoring charity GROW and was highly commended as Mentor of the Year at the Women & Diversity in Law Awards 2023. Beyond work, Emma is a mother of two young children, a Board Trustee of the National Archives Trust and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
