Joan Scott is an In-House Corporate-Commercial Legal Counsel at Nissan Motors UK. She has a multidisciplinary background, having worked across a broad range of sectors including the automotive, retail, oil & gas, agro-chemical and law enforcement, both here in the UK and internationally in Belgium, the US, Spain and the Netherlands.

In addition to her day job, Joan sits on a number of Boards including being an Advisory Board member at BARBRI, a Board Director of the Black Solicitor Network (“BSN”) (where she is also the current Chair of the City Group division), and previously sat on the Advisory Board of EUROPOL’s IP Crime Coordinated Coalition based in The Hague. She has also advised on a number of Expert Working Groups at the European IP Office (“EUIPO”), and regularly engaged on trade representations at the European Commission and European Parliament.

A passionate advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, Joan leads on a number of initiatives supporting greater accessibility and promotion of ethnic minority lawyers. A mentor and proponent of social mobility, Joan was recently ranked in the Top 10 of the 2024 Empower Global Top 100 Future Leader Role Model List and Nominated as a 2023 Law Society Legal Hero for her work in DEI and Mentorship.

Joan continues to use her voice, experiences and position to champion aspiring lawyers from disadvantaged backgrounds, recently creating a new BSN Junior Fellowship Programme for secondary school students in collaboration with King’s College London, where she is an alumni.
